A ministry of Good Shepherd Parish, Trail Life a Christ-centered, boy-focused outdoor adventure, leadership, and character development program for boys. Our troop is a member of Troops Fully Alive, the national association of the more than 50 Trail Life troops chartered by Catholic parishes, parochial schools, homeschool associations, and other Catholic institutions in dioceses throughout the country. Together with American Heritage Girls, Trail Life is represented on the diocese’s Tallahassee Area Catholic Committee on Scouting (TACCOS). In addition, the National Catholic Committee for Trail Life USA was formed to facilitate Catholic participation in Trail Life’s expressly Christian program.
Trail Life began chartering troops on January 1, 2014, and has already begun to receive support from the bishops. On its Catholic scouting web page, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) recognizes the National Catholic Committee for Trail Life USA as a committee that works with scouting and provides resources for parishes, parents, and young people in the Church. The USCCB web page explains: “Various scouting arrangements have developed over the past century, all with the purpose of forming and empowering young people as they mature. Within the Catholic Church, each diocesan bishop oversees arrangements with scouting organizations in his diocese.”
